TUIKE SOUZA

Tuike Souza is a visual artist trained in Architecture, whose work reflects a rich diversity of influences ranging from Street Art and Pop Art to architecture and minimalism, in a synthesis that evokes his cultural background. For Tuike, color and line not only form the foundation of his work but also interact in a vibrant and minimalist harmony. In his paintings, a subtle synthesis of color and form reveals the human figure through pure lines that occupy the two-dimensional space with great precision.

Tuike Souza’s work unfolds a visual poetics in which the human figure and the urban landscape meet within a narrative of great subtlety. His pieces explore the connection between these elements, offering a unique representation of the urban environment and the human forms that inhabit it.

With solo exhibitions in Barcelona, London, and São Paulo, as well as participation in international art fairs such as the Affordable Art Fair in Hamburg and New York, Tuike has consolidated his presence in the international art scene. His work has also been recognized in important competitions such as those of the Fundació Vila Casas and the Biennal d’Art of the Museu d’Art Modern de Tarragona.

BIO

Tuike Souza has built a coherent and continuously evolving artistic trajectory, in which formal and conceptual research are articulated through a strong spatial awareness. His practice emerges from the dialogue between the linear representation of the human figure and the attentive observation of the urban environment as a living and mutable surface. Trained in architecture between Brazil and Italy, Tuike integrates this background into his creative approach, reinforcing a structured yet poetic perspective on space.

From his earliest series, such as Movement Itself. A Fractionated Instant (2009), Souza explored corporeality through the superposition of images and the linear gesture as a record of movement. Later, in Like Crumpled Paper (2012), he incorporated a more explicit architectural dimension, integrating references to historical ruins and consolidating an interest in the relationship between figure and structure.

The evolution of his visual language becomes especially evident in portrait_anti_portrait (2014), where the line acquires expressive autonomy and the female figure becomes a site of tension between formal synthesis and graphic dynamism. In POP_Corn (2016), the artist revisits his roots linked to stencil and urban imagery, integrating processes from the maker movement and contemporary technologies in a reflection on origin, identity, and renewal.

From 2018 onward, with Dispersed Elements Classifying Method, his work expands its investigation into spatial occupation, shifting from two-dimensional representation toward installation-based proposals. This expansion is consolidated in The Colour of Being, Beyond the Skin (2019), where the urban chromatic palette of Barcelona becomes both conceptual and emotional material.

During the period 2020–2025, with Reciprocidad – Reflejo del otro, Souza deepens the relational dimension of color as a metaphor for human coexistence, articulating a poetics of interference and reflection. More recently, in the series Breathe on the Way (2023–2026), his work turns toward a sensitive reading of the contemporary urban landscape, proposing pause and breath as gestures of resistance against the visual and temporal saturation of today’s city.

With solo exhibitions in Barcelona and London, participation in art fairs such as the Affordable Art Fair in Hamburg and New York, and recognition in institutional competitions, Tuike Souza positions himself as an artist whose practice integrates architecture, urban memory, and the human figure into a refined, coherent, and recognizable visual language within the contemporary art scene.
